Love that feeling of putting on a fresh, white, bra straight out of it packaging, only for that enthusiasm to fade to grey quicker than that bra’s colour. Before long it is consigned to the back of the drawer along with all those other yellowish grey bras that you can no longer wear!
Ivory Rose knows that looking after your white bras helps to keep them looking fresher for longer AND helps maintain your its overall longevity. If not cared for properly, even the most expensive of white bras can start to turn yellow, and end up looking grubby and unattractive over time.
Follow the Ivory Rose tips for whitening bras outlined below. Each step will help to keep your white bras looking newer for longer.
Whitening underwear when washing
There’s a technique to washing your bras and other underwear correctly, and Ivory Rose wants to share this with you. You should always try to hand-wash your bras with a mild detergent and cool water. Avoid using bleach or fabric softeners as they can damage the fibres and cause discolouration. When washing, gently rub the fabric together to remove any dirt or stains, but be careful not to stretch the bra out of shape.
If you do prefer to wash your bras in the washing machine (we're very aware of the pull on your precious time), we recommend you use our favourite Lingerie Wash Bag to give your underwear the best protection through the wash.
How to whiten bras with vinegar
If you're struggling with yellowing or discolouration, there are a few different bra whitener methods you can try. One popular method that we recommend here at Ivory Rose is to soak your bras in a mixture of water and baking soda for a few hours before washing them. You can also try adding a cup of white vinegar to your washing machine when washing your bras, as the acid in the vinegar can help to break down any residue and brighten the fabric.
Rotate your bras
Another bra whitening tip that we regularly tell our Ivory Rose customers is to rotate your bras regularly. Wearing the same bra every day can cause it to wear out more quickly, as the elastic and fibres are constantly stretched and pulled. Try to rotate between a few different bras so that each one has time to rest and recover between wears.
Bra storage
It's also important to store your bras correctly. Rather than folding them or stuffing them in a drawer, try hanging them up using a hanger or hook. This will help to maintain their shape and prevent any wrinkles or creases from forming in the fabric.
Recycle your old bras
Remember that it's normal for white bras to show signs of wear and tear over time. While there are steps you can take to maintain their appearance, it's important to be realistic about their lifespan. If your bras are starting to look worn out or lose their shape, it might be time to consign them to the end of their life
